TRADE 04 / MEASURE BUILD FIT

Custom Fabrication, Built To Fit

Some problems have no part number. A discontinued bracket, a mount nobody makes, a railing for stairs that are not square. I measure, design and build steel solutions on site or in the shop.

Insured Price before work MN, ND, WI and MO statewide

Fabrication starts with listening. You describe what keeps breaking or what you wish existed, I sketch it with you, then I build it in steel or aluminum, sized to the real measurements of your real situation, not a catalog average.

Small metal fabrication is criminally underserved. Most shops want production runs. I want the one off, the fix that keeps a good machine working, the rack that finally fits the truck bed.

How a fabrication job runs

  • Measure and sketch together, on site or from your photos
  • Firm quote on materials and labor before anything is cut
  • Build, test fit, adjust, finish
  • Prime or paint options so it lasts outdoors

You approve the plan and the price before steel gets cut. Changes mid build get quoted before they happen, not after.

While the truck is there

Popular add ons that cost little when the tools are already out:

  • Weld repair nearby cracks while set up
  • Add gussets to a known weak point
  • Drill and tap mounting points
  • Prime coat everything before I leave

Fabrication Questions

Can you build from a picture or a broken original?

Yes. A broken original is actually the best blueprint. Photos with a tape measure in frame work well too, and I confirm critical dimensions on site before cutting.

Do you fabricate on site or in a shop?

Both. Simple builds happen right on the tailgate. Bigger or cleaner work gets built at the shop and delivered for final fit.

What metals do you work in?

Mild steel is the workhorse, plus aluminum and stainless where the job calls for it. I will recommend the right material for outdoor life, load and budget.

What do you need from me to start a fabrication job?

The broken original if it still exists, or measurements and a photo of what the part has to fit. Rough dimensions are enough to quote from. I confirm fit on site before final welds so the piece lands right the first time.

How long does a fabricated part take?

It depends on the part and the route schedule, and you get a real date before work starts rather than a guess. Simple brackets and mounts often happen during the same visit. Anything that needs material ordered waits on the supplier.

Can you make parts for equipment that is no longer supported?

That is a good share of the work. When the part is discontinued and the machine is otherwise sound, making the piece costs less than replacing the machine. Bring me the broken one, or the empty space it has to fill.

Every household has the list. The drip, the dead outlet, the cracked hitch, the car that hesitates. One visit, five trades, and the list gets shorter fast.

You approve the price before work starts. If a repair I made fails on my workmanship, I come back and make it right. No fine print, just a handshake that holds.
